Description
It is a building of Romanesque origin as indicated by the remains of opus spicatum preserved in the walls of the nave. Next to it, Count Guifré el Pilós established the ecclesiastical region of Age.
In 1791, as indicated by the central voussoir of the portal, the old apse was destroyed and the current door was opened on the site of the old presbytery, a renovation that completely modified the floor plan of the building, reversing the direction. The nave was also modified with the opening of side chapels and covered by a slightly pointed vault. It is presided over by a late Baroque altarpiece, which contains the image of the Virgin, and is profusely decorated and topped by a large medallion painted with a scene from the Holy Family.
It is necessary to emphasize the first southern chapel, covered with vault of edge and central key, in which the ribbings rest on corbels carved with faces. It is a Gothic chapel prior to the 18th century modifications. As indicated by the presence of the key shield, which must have been painted, it would correspond to the family that built it. Interestingly, it went from being next to the apse to being next to the door.
