The lady of the castle of Nyer and the lady of the tower of Arànser were sisters and they were both pregnant.
Two other very poor sisters, also pregnant, who lived on donations, knocked on the gates of the two castles in a raw winter day . Both ladies, closed the door on their noses, told the poor women that if they had no money they should not give birth to children. They both left crying, but not without first cursing them: Arànser’s lady was predicted to have seven puppies; Nyer’s lady, seven piglets. The time came and seven half-pupppies and half-babies were born in Aranser, and seven half-piglets in Nyer.
The fourteen cousins despised each other from the beginning and as they grew they also increased their hatred, forming two opposing groups, Nyerros and Cadells, which for centuries upset the entire Catalan nobility, divided on both sides.
